
Just as Bihar’s economic development is beginning to receive the attention it deserves, it’s disheartening to see well-meaning individuals express discomfort, and supposedly informed voices reveal deeply ingrained biases.
What many fail to grasp is that Bihar lies at the heart of the Indian identity. There is no Bharatvarsh without Magadhdesh.
This is a simple attempt to highlight that truth — to affirm Bihar’s central place in India’s story, and to challenge the prejudices that continue to cloud perceptions of this remarkable region.

Did you know that Bihar was once the heart of ancient Indian civilization? It was the seat India’s greatest empires – Maurya (322 BCE to 185BCE) and Gupta (320 CE to 550CE). Ashoka the great was a Mauryan king while Samudragupta the greatest Gupta ruler. The Gupta period is also considered the golden age of India. Rajgir and later Pataliputra (modern day Patna) were their capitals.
